Library
At Steyning C of E Primary School, we love to read!
Mrs Sands, our school library manager, works in the library. The library is open Monday to Friday. Our children are always welcome to browse and choose a book, or take part in fun activities which promote a love of reading.
“Reading is prioritised across the school. For example, pupils enjoy visiting the library, which is a central hub. They have regular reading assemblies run by the librarian, and pupil librarians support the running of the library by, for example, writing to authors to facilitate engagement with their school”. OFSTED 2023
The library offers children a huge variety of both fiction and non-fiction books to choose from. The school subscribes to West Sussex Schools Library service, which offers us an exchange of 150 books per term and ensures that our books are regularly updated and the children have access to new, exciting titles.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 Pupil Librarians work in the library at lunchtimes. They are involved in scanning books and shelving them, keeping the library tidy, making displays, reading stories and running activities for the younger children.
In addition, Mrs Sands manages our school library Twitter account. You can follow us on Twitter at @SPS_lovetoread.
